University Center
University Center consists of a 55 acre business park. The Macklin Companies, Inc., acquired the property from two governmental agencies, the Pomona Water District and CalTrans. TMC immediately obtained approval for a Master Planned Development consisting of 10 lots and entitlements ranging from 950,000 square feet to 1,500,000 square feet of multi-use buildings.
The first tenant was Focus on the Family a Christian based organization from Arcadia, California. Focuses leased the first building and thereafter purchase both buildings and land for a campus-like headquarters. Focus later moved to Colorado Springs where it continued to build a campus for its headquarters and future growth.
Other tenants within the park consist of the LA Times, General Motors, Exxon Oil Company, DeVry and Kellar schools, HSBC Bank, KB Homes and several insurance. The project has approximately 4 acres that remain available for future development. The City of Pomona provided a development bond for the utilities and roads, and our joint venture partner was Howard Ahmanson, Home Savings and Loan, and later acquired by Washington Mutual. The project obtained approval as a secure site for LA County disaster recovery plan and a heliport from the FAA, several micro wave transmission site lines from the FCC and emergency back up power permits from AQMD. We recently sold property to a Korean company who plans to develop a processing center for one of their bank clients.
